Now that IT is increasingly touching the core of the organization and dynamic concepts such as cloud are increasingly becoming the norm, insight into delivered value and continuity is more important than ever. However, the complexity and dynamics of IT mean that finance and IT professionals struggle with applying structure. It is important to recognize the cost drivers and to realize that they often interfere with the financial cost categories.
 
A different approach is therefore desirable, namely one that is modeled after IT ecosystems and services. This approach also lays a foundation for linking with the value of the services provided and thus for a cloud-like charging model to incentivize cost-efficient behavior.
 

Objective
We will start with the following learning objectives:
  • Learning to set up a cost model based on IT ecosystems and services with real cost drivers
  • Gaining insight into the importance of documenting facts, assumptions and uncertainties with an IT cost model
  • Learn to (better) understand cost movements and predict them so that real risks can be identified and adjusted in a timely manner
 

Contents
In the three-part FinOps series you will learn the basics of IT ecosystems such as cloud, how to create the corresponding financial models and how to make sustainable judgments about IT investments. The training material is very accessible and set up in such a way that you can apply it immediately the next day.
 
We emphasize the importance of comprehensible and timely reporting, breaking down organizational silos and joint responsibility for IT expenditure. These are some important principles for modern IT Financial Management in general and Cloud Financial Management according to FinOps in particular.
